The slope contains many wonders not found at the summit.

Obedience corrupts; absolute obedience corrupts absolutely.

The spider spinning its web is absorbed, but not self-absorbed.

Build your castle of dreams, but don't live in it.

What we have in common is also part of our uniqueness.

The true ladder of success is the one lying on the ground.

There is no fact that is not at least part fiction.

Ideas stand in the corner and laugh while we fight over them.

Even the bullfrog has a beautiful voice when it sings for its own pleasure.

Snow is the truth only when it's snowing.

Don't stand in the hallway waiting; join the feast.

What is eternal is the cloud passing slowly out of sight.

  1. So much to think about and enjoy! I love "ideas stand in the corner and laugh while we fight over them". But I really enjoy the truth behind the first one. It echoes the sentiment that we can get so caught up in the destination that we miss the pleasures of the journey itself.

  2. I like very much the one about ideas laughing at us, this is the sort of aphorism the world needs to listen to. I like them all, of course; the one about joining the feast is probably my fave.

  4. You know NP, every time I'm surprised at the aphorisms. There's so much strength in their simplicity and I usually doze of in the distance and think them through haha. Thanks for these NP! *waves* Xx

  6. hi, Love the "Build but not live in castles in the air" Reminded of the joke:- A neuortic worries about them......a psychotic lives in them......and a psychiatrist collects the rent! Thanks for another great post Neil

  7. The slope has many wonders, when we reach the summit, it is time to come down because it is very cold there.
We only can taste the real snow while snowing.
I am enjoy reading all these.
    Thanks.

  8. Wow. I love them all. How you continue to create sayings full of such insight and wisdom amazes me.

Thanks, once again, for making me stop and think.

  9. Wow, NP, you had me at the first one, though they are all great! "The slope contains many wonders not found at the summit." So true. It reminds me of the old saying that the anticipation is usually better than the reality. Just think of how we were as kids, anticipating Christmas. Most of the time we were still happy on Christmas day, but once in a while there was the much desired gift that didn't arrive. Great life lesson. :)

  10. I loved all of them. :) This one leapt off the page and made lol :D.

"Ideas stand in the corner and laugh while we fight over them."

  14. I like this part:"Even the bullfrog has a beautiful voice when it sings for its own pleasure"

You should hear me sing with much gusto under the shower, eat your heart out Bon Jovi.

    Suddenly I felt shame.

  23. All of them are profound, though I dare say, I differ in obedience.

Obedience is of utmost necessary, and the greatest of obedience is to be obedient to ourselves..

I have been going through all of your "one-liners". So much depth, so much to think..every sentence needs a deep meditative approach to understand..To be honest I am glad that I found...

  32. have been waiting for a long time for you to write on this blog :) and the joy that came crashing internally was amazing once i found out you did. I re-read them all no less than 15 times...each one filtering in my some new understanding and some new wisdom. The simplicity in which you state something is mesmerizing. My favourite one's are the spider once, obedience, the snow one...they all gave me a need to think and contemplate but those three hit a spot deep inside...thanks always for your aphorisims

  33. Some nice stuff here... always a pleasure to peruse...& read comments.

    Alex.

  34. That was heavy, I kept getting a clearer picture only as I read and re-read...

To follow your dreams and passions..to love what you are doing is to enjoy each moment of it...to not think of just the destination as where all the pleasure lies but also in each moment that leads to it, for it is only your own heart you are following, your song that you are singing for yourself to please, to let go a little and follow your dreams against a few odds, to just be.

Am I on the right track ?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Very deep semantics! Stayed longer here than usual to follow. Your terrific brain did it again! But I chose this one-
"Don't stand in the hallway waiting; join the feast".
I feel guilty because I choose to stand and wait when invited to a feast. I might take the wrong seat, that's why. Haha! Happy Holidays and Happy New Year to you and your family!

  36. Obedience corrupts; absolute obedience corrupts absolutely. Most relevant,is what we experience in most parts of the world today.

  74. I wish you posted more frequently, even if your lists were smaller. I have a list of "Others Quotes" and I just added a ton of quotes from you. You are now the star of that list, but it is fairly new.

Anytime I use one, I will link it back to its source.

There are two themes that I think you and I share and they are these:

    1. Happiness is a choice, not a reality, and so is sadness in most cases.

    2. The ownership of truth is an illusion. We think what we think as a result of core axioms and we argue back and forth over the details that are nothing more than manifestations of core beliefs that, by definition, cannot be proven. One person is no more likely to be “right” than another, regardless of how right or righteous he feels.
